Introduction
TEAN has been working on the following environmental issues in Taiwan through the cooperation with international NGOs:
Animal Rights
Stray dogs in Taiwan are regarded as nothing better than garbage. Garbage collectors also act as dog catchers and many so-called dog shelters are situated on or next to garbage dumps....
Coastal Wetlands
TEAN works along the side of SAVE and various other international and local groups to defeat the Binnan industrial project to preserve the winter habitate for Black-faced Spoonbill, the well- known endangered species, and other more than 300 species......
Energy
There is now worldwide recognition of the threat of global warming. The world community for the first time agreed to specific, binding reduction target during the meeting of the Conference of Parties at Kyoto, Japan in 1997. With Taiwan as the 24th largest source of CO2 emissions in the world....
Forestry
The Chi-Lan Formosan Cedar Forest has existed on Taiwan for millions of years. We now desperately need your attention and support to make sure it will be securely preserved for the many milleniums to come...
Hazardous Waste
Taiwan Environmental Action Network supports Basel Action Network's campaign to curtail Formosa Plastic's export of mercury waste from Cambodia to California. TEAN would be happy to join forces with BAN and others in a press release to express our opposition to Formosa Plastic's export of mercury wastes abroad, this time to the United States. We are eager to...
High-tech Expansion
In 1982, a woman in a San Jose neighborhood had a child who was born with a serious heart defect who required several surgeries. She went door to door in her community and identified many other neighbors whose family members had recently suffered similar health problems. Her efforts led to the discovery...

Even worse, these wetlands have increasingly turned into wastelands and industrial parks......

In southern Taiwan, clean drinking water has become a dream for most residents. From north to south, most rivers have been destroyed by intensive human activities.... The river story is sad, and the dams' stories are continuing. The butterfly may find no home one day.....

Toxic Waste Crisis in Taiwan

Rescue Chi-Lan Formosan Cedar* Forest -- The Green Project for the Millenium
Dear Friends,
Rainforest destruction doesn't happen in someplace faraway.
In fact, you can see what's happening to the world's last wild rainforest right where you live: at your local home improvement store or lumberyard. Walking down the aisles of Megan lumber retailer is like walking through a rainforest graveyard. Hemlock, cypress and cedar from high mountains of sub-tropical or high attitude rainforest of North America. Tropical hardwoods from Southeast Asia. We need to stop selling woods from endangered old growth forests. We need you to take a few moments right now to sign the enclosed letter for us. Please help us to protect the World's original old growth forest -- Taiwan Cedar. It is a tall, precious and indigenous coniferous true cedar known especially for its fragrance and durability.
